Hendo Hoverboard for sale

Hendo Hoverboard Review

The Hendo hoverboard is a real hoverboard that incorporates some incredible innovative technology. Unlike a lot of the self balancing scooters (often called hoverbaords) on the market, the Hendo hoverboard actually hovers.

That's right, you can hop on the Hendo hoverboard and transport yourself without ever touching the ground. There's some really unique technology powering this hoverboard, we'll dive into that in a minute. We're going to take a look at:

  • Product specs
  • Hendo background info
  • Potential release date

We say potential release date because the Hendo is still in prototype form. It's been tested and ridden, but is not yet available for sale. We'll speculate when this technology might hit the market.

Hendo Specs and How it Works

The Hendo hoverboard utilizes four hover engines to generate lift and levitate off the ground. The science driving this levitation is electromagnetic repulsion. There's a magnetic field created by each of these hover engines that is opposite to the surface below - this results in a hovering effect.

This means that there are certain requirements for the surface below the Hendo.

Currently, sheets of common metal are used to create the desired effect. If you watch the videos of prototype testing, you can see that there's not a ton of steering control on the current prototypes. The Hendo does a great job of hovering, but that's about it at the moment.

Fortunately, there are solutions for the steering problem. Insight into a potential solution can be found in the WhiteBox prototype. The WhiteBox is a developer kit that Hendo sends out to various specialists for testing. The WhiteBox has a micro controller built in that can be used to pivot the engines. This changes their magnetic field orientation to the surface that they hover above. The result - the WhiteBox can be steered with a remote control.

We'll likely see some sort of implementation of this steering technology in the next Hendo prototype.

Hendo Background

The Hendo hoverboard was developed by it's parent company Arx Pax. They're led by visionary and founder, Greg Henderson. Henderson brought the Hendo technology to life, and labeled it Magnetic Field Architecture (MFA).

The vision has grown and has a list of potential applications beyond hoverboards. The Arx Pax team has also grown into a group of passionate individuals working to develop this technology.

The technology of the Hendo hoverboard has evolved over many different prototypes. The original prototype was created in 2013. There have been a total of 7 different phases to date. The current prototype in the works is nothing more than an illustration. We expect it to incorporate the MFA technology to take advantage of electromagnetic repulsion, we also expect to see a more advanced steering feature.

Release Date and Price Speculation

The Hendo hoverboard doesn't currently have a release date. There's definitely some fine tuning that needs to be handled before it's made available for sale.  The latest prototype (shown above) is just an illustration. That said, there is a group of donors set to be first in line for the board when it's ready.

Each of those donors donated $10,000 to the Hendo hoverboard project. The project appeared on Kickstarter. It also promised $100 donors a 5 minute ride and $1,000 donors an hour long private session on the Hendo.

Powerboard hoverboard two wheel self balancing scooter review

Powerboard by HoverBoard – Two Wheel Self Balancing Scooter Review

Powerboard hoverboard two wheel self balancing scooter review

Pros

The Powerboard two wheel self balancing scooter is made HoverBoard, a trusted American company based in the USA.  You can order the Powerboard from Amazon, it's also carried by a few other retailors. They deliver a high quality product with fast shipping and a battery that meets stringent safety standards. It's now UL 2272 certified, meaning the battery has met stringent safety requirements. The Powerboard hoverboard has a top speed of 8mph, about the same speed as the Razor Hovertrax at 6mph. It can be fully charged in under 60 minutes and has a battery life of up to 6 hours, making it ideal for long commutes. The charge rate and battery life really separate the Powerboard from its competitors, which have much longer charge times of around 3 hours and significantly shorter battery lives. An LED indicator displays the remaining battery charge to the rider. The Powerboard hover board also comes with a 1 year warranty and USA based customer support.

Cons

The price of the Powerboard is more expensive than some other brands on the market, such as the Hover X. You may pay more for the Powerboard, but you are paying for a high quality board with better battery life and a solid warranty. Faces similar issues as other 7-inch wheel hoverboards, it will be difficult to ride on rough terrains. If you are looking for a hoverboard that can handle rough terrains, check out the StreetSaw. They make a model with 10 inch wheels that can handle just about any surface. It also isn't very water resistant, so use a carrying case in rough weather conditions.

My Experience

Ordered my Powerboard from Amazon and it arrived 3 days later, one of the many benefits of buying from a USA based seller. The board was everything I expected right out of the box! I immediately noticed the high quality of the materials used, show more

something I can't say for some of the cheaper brands out there.  I ordered the black color, it has a very sleek look to it. The first thing I did was read the instruction manual, and per the instructions I then plugged it in to charge before turning it on. You should do this with any hoverboard to ensure that you don't damage the battery. The battery life and charge time are phenomenal, exactly as advertised. This is a reason in and of itself to buy a Powerboard, I spend much less time charging and more time cruising around on my board. Overall this is is a great hoverboard, easily one of the best I've tested! I've been using it for a little over a month now and haven't had any problems with the board.

Halo Rover hoverboard review

Halo Rover Hoverboard Review

Pros

The Halo Rover Hoverboard is an all terrain hoverboard with a list of features that rivals any other hoverboard currently on the market. If you're interested in purchasing the Halo Rover, the best place to go is either Amazon or directly to the Halo Board website.

There are a lot of hoverboards out there that are great for street cruising. It's fun, but for those looking to push the boundaries of hoverboarding, the Halo Rover is a must have. It's capable of maneuvering through snow, mud, grass or sand. The off road tires are 8.5 inches in diameter, larger than the standard 7 inch tires on most hoverboards. It's also rated IPX4 water resistant.

The Halo Rover is UL2272 certified, so you don't have to worry about battery safety. The self balancing scooter has a few different rider modes - beginner, normal and advanced. The Halo Rover also has its own app that allows you to switch between rider modes, track speed, distance traveled and battery life. Did I mention the bluetooth speakers? You can stream music from your phone while riding the Rover.

Top speed for this board is 9 mph. You can travel a distance of up to 10 miles on a single, 2.5 hour charge. The rover is also capable of climbing slopes of 20 degrees, slightly steeper than the 15 degree capability of standard hoverboards.

Cons

The main drawback to the Halo Rover is the price tag. It's certainly more expensive than standard hoverboards like the Swagtron T1. That said, the off road capabilities and extra features make the hefty price tag worthwhile.

Another thing to consider with the Halo Rover is the hoverboard's weight. At 32 lbs, it's about 6-10 pounds heavier than standard hoverboards. The extra weight is necessary to beef up the Halo Rover for off road capabilities. Just make sure that you're comfortable carrying that amount of weight. It's important to note that the Halo Rover hoverboard comes equipped with a carrying case(helps to redistribute weight), and the case is sturdier than most standalone carrying cases sold online.

Comparison

The Halo Rover is very comparable to the EPIKGO hoverboard and the Jetson V8 Rover. These off road hoverboards have similar capabilities and only minor differences in features. Most pf these all terrain hoverboards sell at a similar price point.

  • Top speed: 9mph

Swagtron T5 Hoverboard Review

Swagtron T5 Review

Pros

Swagtron is one of the most popular hoverboard brands on the market, and their new T5 model is sure to draw some attention. The Swagtron T5 hoverboard is slightly less expensive than the T1 and T3 models. If you're looking for a cheap hoverboard the Swagtron T5 is a great place to start. We also keep a running list of cheap hoverboards that have passed our safety standards, feel free to check it out.

While this hoverboard is definitely cheap, there's a compromise to be made, the T5 is lighter on the features. That said, it still comes equipped with everything you need to have a blast on your hoverboard without emptying your pockets. If you decide the Swagtron T5 is the right choice, you can find it on Amazon. You can also buy it from the Swagtron website, using our coupon code for $10 off.

The T5 hoverboard is lighter than other Swagtron hoverboard models, weighing in at 18 pounds. This makes it an ideal self balancing scooter for kids. At the lighter weight, it still boasts a solid maximum carrying capacity of 220 pounds.

The Swagtron T5 is powered by a 200 watt motor. It reaches a top speed of 7 mph and can travel up to 7 miles on a single charge. Other cool features include Swagtron SentryShield smart battery management, battery indicators and learning mode. It's also important to note that this self balance scooter is UL 2272 certified, meaning that the battery has passed the most stringent safety tests.

Cons

At a cheaper price point than the T1 and T3 models, the Swagtron T5 does compromise on some features. Top speed, power, and battery life are all a bit lighter than in the premium models.

The T5 also does not come equipped with bluetooth and cannot sync up with the Swagtron app. While these are nice features to have, they're certainly not essential for having a great time. Although the lower speeds and lighter weight may seem like a draw back to some, it makes this hoverboard better suited for kids and safer in many ways.

Hoverzon S hoverboard review

Hoverzon Hoverboard Review

Hoverzon Models

The Hoverzon hoverboard comes in two different models, the Hoverzon S and the Hoverzon XLS. There are a few features that differentiate the models.

Hoverzon S

  • Base model at a lower price point
  • 250 watt motor
  • 6.5 inch wheels
  • UL 2272 certified

Hoverzon XLS

  • Higher price point to accommodate extra features
  • Multiple layers of battery protection
  • Dual independent motors
  • Gear stabilization
  • Smart battery management system
  • Bluetooth speaker
  • UL 2272 certified
Pros

Both models of the Hoverzon self balancing scooter are UL 2272 certified. This means that it has passed stringent safety certification standards. Hoverzon has revved up the power of its new hoverboard, the Hoverzon S features a 250 watt motor while the XLS operates on dual motors.

The extra features available on the Hoverzon XLS are really a plus. Essentially you are getting more power, bluetooth speakers, smart battery management, a 5 level LED battery indicator, a carrying strap, wider non-slip foot pads and a movement indicator for only a slightly higher price tag. While none of these features are necessary for a hoverboard, they're definitely nice to have.

Increased battery protection as well as specially designed ABS material make the Hoverzon S and Hoverzon XLS incredibly durable. They're made by Hoverzon, a trustworthy company. Both models come with a 1 year warranty.

Cons

Hoverzon fixed the serious safety issues present in generation models, it also added some cool new features. These hoverboards are definitely safer and more durable than previous boards, but they aren't incredibly innovative. Other hoverboards like the Jetson V6 are app integrated, which is where we see a lot of hoverboards heading in the future. There are also boards that have gone a little further to push the limits of off road capabilities, like the EPIKGO. None of these features are necessary, and while the Hoverzon has innovated in many ways it's still hasn't pushed the envelope quite as far as other boards.

  • Max speed: 8 mph
  • Charge time: 2-3 hours
  • Weight: 22 lbs
  • Weight Capacity: 220 lbs
  • LED Lights: Yes, vary by model
  • Bluetooth: Depends on modes
  • UL 2272 Certified: Yes

Skque X1 Hoverboard Review

Skque Hoverboard Review

Models

Skque has released two lines of UL 2272 certified hoverboards, the X1 and the I1. Each line offers a couple of unique features, which we'll take a look at before we dive into the full review.

Skque I1

  • Standard 6.5" wheels
  • Option to upgrade to bluetooth speaker
  • Option to upgrade to LED light bumpers + bluetooth speaker

Skque X1

  • Models with 6.5" wheels, 8 inch wheels and 10" wheels
  • Bluetooth included on all models
  • Sleek design
Pros

The new I1 and X1 models are UL 2272 certified. This is the most important factor that we take into consideration when reviewing a hoverboard. It's also a USA brand - that's usually a plus when it comes to customer service and warranty.

Another thing that we love about the I1 and X1 are the variety of options. A total of 6 different hoverboards are available between the two lines, with variations in wheel size, bluetooth and LED lights. More choices are always a good thing, so we applaud Skque for giving us plenty of them.

Aside from the improved safety of the battery and array of features, the Skque X1 and I1 also offer an improved turning radius. This means that you can operate your self balancing scooter in very tight spaces. The charge time is relatively quick, 1-2 hours for a full charge. The I1 is powered by two 250 watt motors while the X1 contains two 350 watt motors. Both lines have a stronger shell than previous models for increased durability.

Cons

The X1 and I1 are relatively new lines of hoverboards, making it difficult to find any flaws. At this point in time the only real downside is the lack of features to distinguish the X1 and I1 from older Skque models. The critical flaws in early models - namely lack of UL 2272 certification - were addressed. But as far as newly innovative features, there aren't a ton to get excited about. We will certainly update this post if we find anything to be concerned about.

  • Max speed: 6.2 mph
  • Charge time: 1 - 2 hours
  • Weight: 28 lbs
  • Weight capacity: 255 lbs
  • LED Lights: Yes, vary by model
  • Bluetooth: Yes, depending on model
  • UL 2272 certified: Yes

EPIKGO hoverboard

EPIKGO Hoverboard Review

EPIKGO hoverboard

Pros

The EPIKGO is a hoverboard in a class of it's own. A lot of common issues that we saw in previous generations of hoverboards have been addressed by the EPIKGO. It's larger, more powerful, sturdier and safer than many other models. The EPIKGO hoverboard has nearly the same specs as the Halo Rover, for those interested in a comparable. If you're looking to commute outdoors the EPIKGO is the self balancing scooter for you. The board is UL 2272 certified for safety, and it's powered by a UL 2271 certified Samsung LG battery. It's made by a US brand based in Silicon Valley. The EPIKGO comes equipped with large 8.5 inch wheels that can handle any terrain. Here are a couple other really cool features that make the EPIKGO stand out:

  • 400W dual motors
  • 2X more powerful than leading competitor
  • 30% larger than competitors
  • IP56 waterproof certified
  • Traverse 18 degree slopes

Calling the EPIKGO a beast would be an understatement, this thing is a tank. If you're worried about your hoverboard holding up in the elements, the EPIKGO is for you.

Cons

The EPIKGO is slightly larger than other hoverboards on the market. That means that it will be a bit tougher to transport this board when you're not riding it. While the large size is ideal for heavier riders, it may not be as comfortable of a fit for small kids. The EPIKGO has a minimum weight limit of 44lbs for riders.

My Experience

I'm a big fan of riding hoverboards outdoors, and I don't like to be limited to the sidewalk. I also don't like how most first generation hoverboards are literally the same board with a new label stamped on it. For these reasons, I really loved riding the EPIKGO hoverboard. It's in a league of it's own. The board had no problem handling mud, rain, grass (for the most part) and other rough terrains. I'm a big guy, about 200 lbs, and the board was still moving fast with me on it. It also goes forward and reverse while on an 18 degree slope, which was really impressive. EPIKGO claims that their board is indestructible . This might be a stretch, but it's definitely the closest thing to unbreakable as far as hoverboards go. I recommend the board to anyone looking for a feature heavy hoverboard that can handle the outdoors well.

  • Max speed: 10mph
  • Charge time: 1-2 hours
  • Battery life: 10-12 miles
  • Weight: 26 lbs
  • Weight capacity: 260lbs
  • LED lights: Yes
  • Bluetooth integrated: No
  • UL 2272 certified: Yes

Jetson V6 Hoverboard

Jetson V6 Hoverboard – UL Certified

Jetson V6 Hoverboard

Jetson V6 Hoverboard Review

Pros

The Jetson V6 hoverboard is carried exclusively by Target. It's a high quality board with UL 2272 certification, which is the most important factor we consider when reviewing hoverboards. While the V6 is exclusive to Target, Jetson also makes a sturdier all terrain model (the Jetson V8 Rover) that can be bought on Amazon. If you're interested in an off road model, we've compiled a review of the V8 Rover and other all terrain models.

As far as features go, the Jetson V6 blows away much of the competition. A top speed of 10 mph and battery life of 15 miles are both at the top end of the range for their respective categories. The Jetson V6 has a long list of cool capabilities that can be accessed through the Jetson Ready Ride App:

  • Bluetooth connectivity to speakers
  • Ability to customize the LED lights
  • Change between ride modes based on skill level
  • Track your speed and distance traveled
  • Find the location of your hoverboard when lost
  • Share ride stats via social media
  • Compete with your friends in games

All in all, this is by far the most interactive hoverboard that we've seen thus far. The app connectivity, features and social media integration take the Jetson V6 to the next level of hoverboarding. The V6 also comes with 8 inch wheels, that's slightly larger than the industry average of 7 inches. The larger wheel size allows riders to navigate rough terrain with a more stable ride.

Cons

The Jetson V6 was just recently released, and to be honest we're still trying to digest all of the cool features built in to the app. If we find any flaws in the build we will update this post to account for them.

My Experience

I was really pumped to try the Jetson V6 hoverboard, and it didn't fail to impress. Subtle features like customizable LED lights make this self balancing scooter really personalized. The Ride Ready App makes the V6 a lot of fun. I don't use social media often, but I had an urge to update my stats to Facebook. Taking on friends in challenges was a ton of fun, probably my favorite feature.

The charge time was faster than a lot of other UL certified hoverboards. It took less than 2 hours to get a full charge. It also has a control to auto shut off when it's fully charge. That's a really awesome safety measure! One of the only problems you can run into with a hoverboard is over charging, the V6 appears to have solved this. Oh and did I mention it's flame and water resistant?

  • Speed: 10 mph
  • Charge time: 1 - 2 hours
  • Battery Life: 15 miles
  • Weight: 22 lbs
  • Weight capacity: 300 lbs
  • LED Lights: Yes, customizable with app
  • Bluetooth Integrated: Yes
  • UL 2272 certified: Yes

Hovertrax 2.0 review

Razor Hovertrax 2.0 Smart Self-Balancing Scooter Review

Razor Hovertrax 2.0 Review

Pros

The Hovertrax 2.0 is one of the top self balancing scooters on the market, it's produced by Razor, a well known and trusted company. You can find the Hovertrax 2.0 on Amazon and the Razor website. Recently there have been many issues with the reliability and safety of the batteries used in Chinese-made hoverboards, but Razor has shown that they can produce a quality, durable self balancing scooter.

The Hovertrax 2.0 is UL 2272 certified, meaning that the battery has passed incredibly strict safety standards. This doesn't surprise us, as they have been in the scooter market for a long time now. With a range of 12 miles (60 minutes of continuous riding), you can enjoy your Hovertrax for longer periods of time than most hoverboard scooters. The charge time is about 2 hours, which is comparable to other hoverboards we've reviewed.

A new technology called EverBalance is used to make the Hovertrax 2.0 extremely smooth and easier than ever to balance on. A 15 degree tilt allows this hoverboard to climb small hills. It also comes equipped with an LED indicator to display battery power and balance level.

Cons

The Hovertrax 2.0 has a top speed of about 8mph. This is slower than the EPIKGO, but we have found that most people do not actually enjoy a cruising speed faster than 8mph. It is also a bit more expensive than other hoverboards such as the Swagtron T1, but you are getting a premium brand name with quality features. The board won't handle off road environments as well as the Halo Rover hoverboard, but it does well on most surfaces.

My Experience

I ordered the Hovertrax from Amazon and waited just over a week for it to arrive. When I pulled it out of the box the first thing I noticed is that the 2.0 has directional LED lights like the Powerboard, a feature that the original Hovertrax didn't have. It also has LED indicators that show battery power and balance level, which do come in handy. Another thing that I liked about the Hovertrax 2.0 was the new design. The design for the original Hovertrax felt cheap and unoriginal, but the 2.0 has got it's own unique style. The fender bumpers are a nice addition as well, it helps protect the board from scratches and dings. I have not had many issues while riding the board over the course of the last few weeks, and the battery life has been solid.

Stats

  • Speed: 8 mph
  • Charge time: 3 hours
  • Battery Life: 12  miles (60 minutes of continuous riding)
  • Colors: 2
  • Weight Capacity: 220 pounds
  • Tilt: 15 degrees
  • Weight: 26.5 lbs
  • LED Lights: Battery power/ balance level indicator

leray hoverboard self balancing scooter review

Leray Self Balancing Scooter Review

leray hoverboard self balancing scooter review

UPDATE: Amazon no longer carries hoverboards. However, Skque and StreetSaw hoverboards can still be found online.

Pros

Leray is a brand name that can be trusted by consumers, and their self balancing scooters use a certified safe battery pack.  The quality of the battery pack is important given the fire related issues faced by other boards on the market. A range of 10 miles on a single charge gives you plenty of riding time. Charge time varies between 1 and 2.5 hours, with an hour charge giving you enough juice for miles of riding. The top speed of the Leray hoverboard is around 10 mph, this is fast enough for even the most daring hoverboard riders. A 15 degree tilt angle allows this board to climb small hills.

Cons

The paint scratches relatively easily, fortunately scratches won't affect the performance of the board. As with other 7-inch wheel hoverboards, the Leray is going to have a difficult time navigating rough terrain. For those of you looking for an outdoor board, check out the Streetsaw self balancing scooter. They produce a model with 10 inch wheels that can handle tough terrains. You also won't be able to use this self balancing scooter in the rain or snow as it isn't water resistant. If you want to take this board out in the rain, we recommend using a carrying case.

My Experience

I bought my Leray hoverboard from Amazon, the first thing I noticed was the quick charge time on this hoverboard, which is a huge plus for me. I plug it in for just over an hour and get a few hours of riding time on it. This is a really cool looking hoverboard. Call me shallow, but the an attractive design is one of the biggest features I look for in a hoverboard, right up there with quality and safety. The Leray has all of these things, which is why it's one of my favorite boards.  I have crashed a few times; 10mph is a very fast speed and it can be hard to control the board while moving this fast. The paint on the board has been scratched up in a few places, but this problem isn't unique to the paint used on the Leray. Overall the quality is great, and riding this board is very smooth compared to a lot of other hoverboards.
